timeless music, wedding music, wedding favorites

Timeless Music is the key to any packed dance floor.

Recently, we’ve been doing some late night mixes in preparation for New years Eve. The playlists have been ranging from today’s hits all the way back to 80’s club mixes. One of our listeners had said, ‘WOW! this really takes me back. I feel like a teenager again boppin’ around on the couch

That’s exactly what we were going for. As a DJ, our job is not just to have the latest and greatest but to fire up the memory time machine once in a while and take people back to those thrilling days of yesteryear in their youth. When you have a dance floor full of people of all ages, it’s important to engage the audience as a whole.

When you’re playing a set and you hit that one gem and mix it in perfectly, you see people’s eyes light up with joy. They’re instantly transported back to the age of 16. That, ‘AH HA!’ moment keeps people coming back for more and more every time.

When it comes to entertaining, there are no rules. If the beat’s alright, they will dance all night.

Making music requests for the party goer.

We’ve all done it. We’ve all heard that song on the radio that we love. We even know the name of the song, most of the time. But do you ever have that song title that’s on the tip of your tongue but you just can’t figure it out?

DJ’s are no different. We carry a massive song library with tens if not hundreds of thousands of music. It’s IMPOSSIBLE to remember each song, how it goes, the title, artist, and record label. But there is hope for you yet. If you’ve got a smart phone, pop onto your app store and download the latest version of SHAZAM!

Shazam is an incredible piece of software. Those songs that are on the on the edge of thought are all on there. All you have to do is hit the Shazam button and your phone will listen to the song you’re listening to and come back with the artist, song, and year it was recorded. This also works well at a party or wedding when you DJ pulls out a song that you love that you’ve never heard before.

So the next time you have a request, give Shazam a shot. You and your DJ will thank you. :)

While on the Weddingwire forums this afternoon, I came across a post labeled ‘DO NOT PLAY LIST’
I was especially eager to see what brides thought about this and how varied the answers would be.

As expected, there are some standards and floor fillers that happen at almost every wedding you’ve ever been to. Things like Love Shack, Cha Cha Slide, and a few others.

What does the fox say, was another one that made the list. It’s pretty cheesy. Not sure where it would fit into a wedding but, hey… who am i to judge?

HIP HOP & Top 40 – It’s no secret, the music of today continually pushes the envelope when it comes to raunchiness. At a wedding, you typically have everyone from grandparents to kids there so, it’s important to have music that is at the very least PG13.

Don’t Stop Believing – This is the #1 song most requested at weddings. It has been for the past 5 years running. Such anthems are great for sing alongs and air guitar enthusiasts.

Miley Cyrus – Enough said.

Carrie Underwood – Before He Cheats – For a wedding? Really?

And these are just a few. What songs would you omit from your wedding celebration?

Whats your music mood telling you?

Music has a funny way of telling you about yourself. It’s something that connects us all. Music is a universal language. The difference between a major and a minor chord and drastically alter someone’s mood. And how those chord changes happen tells a story. Music exudes emotion. Think about a song that means a lot to you. The tonal quality, the lyrics, and most certainly the beat…. all speak to you in some way, shape or form. You listen to different types of music depending on your mood and to alter the mood that you may be in. This is part of the psychology that DJ’s use to pack a dancefloor.

What kind of mood are you in?

1. Endless Love – Luther Vandross – Falling in love or feeling loved.
2. SHOTS – LMFAO – Party animal looking to tie a good one on.
3. Standin on Top of the World – Van Halen – A great sense of accomplishment
4. Walk – Pantera – Anger
5. Birthday Cake – Rihanna – Feeling scandalous.
6. Locked Out of Heaven – Bruno Mars – Frustrated
7. I’ve got my Game On – Trace Adkins – Confident
8. Great Balls of Fire – Jerry Lee Lewis – Excited
9. I’m Every Woman – Whitney Houston – Liberated
10. Circus – Britney Spears – On a pedestal.

On November 15th,  we were invited to be a part of Crosby High School‘s 2013 homecoming dance. Over 200 people attended the friday night bash dressed in their best red carpet style.

Take a look at some of the pictures from last night’s event.

Alcohol Free Dry Wedding

The Alcohol Free Dry Wedding

Drinking is one of America’s favorite pastimes. There are MILLIONS of watering holes across the nation with only one purpose in mind… Social networking. They are the original facebook.

Weddings typically are no exception. It’s a gathering of family, friends, and co-workers who are all looking for a good time and alcohol helps with that when it’s enjoyed responsibly. But what if you don’t want to serve alcohol at your wedding? We all have that Uncle Bob that has one too many or the friend from your husband’s fraternity that never grew up. It happens. But fear not, there is hope in your DJ.

A wedding entertainers job is to make sure that you and your guests are happy, comfortable, and enjoying themselves throughout your special day. There’s a DJ for everyone out there and they all bring something different to the table. If you hired a DJ who works hard at making sure that your guests are on the dancefloor, chances are, they will forget that there even is a bar in the room. They will have fun without becoming intoxicated.

What’s the one thing that guests will remember from a wedding? Is it the free drinks or is it the entertainment? 9 times out of 10, they always remember if they danced. Still not convinced? Check out a video from a 100% alcohol free, daytime wedding with only 60 guests by clicking the link below. Having the right entertainment for your special day trumps every other detail.

5 Things that Every Bride Books but noone remembers.

So, you’ve just got engaged and immediately start planning out in your head of what your perfect wedding would be like. You drive quickly to the supermarket to grab several bridal magazines and begin calling friends to ask them to be a part of your bridal party. In the magazines, you see pictures of beautiful dresses, regal looking venues, and an ambiance fit for royalty. This is your wedding. It’s all about you. There are so many choices that you really would love to have them all but, your budget quickly dwindles to pennies and you haven’t even chosen your DJ, Photographer, or Videographer yet.

You’ve never planned a wedding before. So how do you know what services and options to book for your wedding? Here are the 5 things that EVERY bride books but noone remembers.

1. The Chocolate Fountain.

Who doesn’t like chocolate? People in formal attire. This sticky sweet treat is a great addition to sweet 16’s and house parties but for weddings, it’s a costly addition and very messy.

2. The overdone tables, centerpieces, & upholstered chairs with matching bows.

Choosing the right decor is a difficult task. There are so many choices. Pick one. After the 4 ft centerpieces, pleated luxurious fabric table and chair covers with matching bows, and enough candles to stay warm on a cold winters night. Where will you eat your dinner? This is one of the most common conundrums of wedding planning. Remember, sometimes less is more.

3. The abomidable cheese display.

It’s not secret. Cheese is just about everyone’s favorite food. Most people like what they like and are less likely to try an artisan cheese that only Andrew Zimmer from Bizarre Foods would try. If you’re going to have this option, keep it simple. You’ll get what you pay for and your guests will enjoy their favorite cheeses.

4. Parting gifts.

How tasty was that trendy baggie of cookies you got at the last wedding you attended? I bet they’re still in your car’s backseat cup holder waiting to be eaten for when you’re stranded in traffic.
It’s normal to send your guests home with something as a thank you for being a part of your special day. They’ve already enjoyed a meal fit for a king, the open bar, and a night out. Now I’m not saying to be cheap but, think about it. Cookies, candles, fridge magnets, and nippers typically end up in the kitchen junk drawer. Be practical.

5. Last but not least is the disposable camera.

In the interest of being budget friendly, we’ve left the duty of getting quality wedding photography to your wedding guests. We’ve all seen them. The picture with the finger half over the lense, the over exposed group shot that turns even the most tanned guests into albinos. You get the idea.

By being smart with your wedding budget, you can all that you want and none of what you don’t.
